Optimizing Wellbore Productivity

Discover how Aphron fluid technology involves dynamic multiple phase flow that controls whole fluid, filtrate and solids invasion into your reservoir. The co-polymers and surfactants package, or “aphrons”, in the fluid systems give the fluid some very unique properties. The ability of this fluid technology to deliver solids free invasion control is a key differentiator from perceived competitive products.

Drilling Fluid Systems

drilling fluid systems

Improve drilling efficiency, increase production levels, and minimize environmental concerns with NOS drilling fluid systems, including CL Free, AphronICS, and AirBeadsLCS. At NOS, we develop drilling fluid systems that reduce HSE impact, non-productive drilling time, and costs while maximizing wellbore stability and production as well as optimizing ROP.

cl free

chloride-free system

Meet challenging drilling targets with minimal environmental impact. The CL Free system was developed in response to onshore environmental concerns, in order to avoid chloride and high-salinity WBMs while improving solids removal efficiency.

The CL Free system is highly inhibitive, controlling hydration and swelling of reactive clays by restricting water absorption and maintaining cuttings integrity. Drilling shales rich in kaolinite with conventional potassium-based drilling fluids may destabilize the clay matrix and decrease rock strength. CL Free is designed for high chemical inhibition to prevent clays from becoming plastic and to provide geo-mechanical support.

benefits include
  • Improved solids removal efficiency
  • Highly inhibitive
  • Stable, gauged hole
  • High lubricity
  • High ROP
  • Low salinity
  • Reduced bit-balling
  • Reduced dilution rates
  • Reduced production consumption
  • Reduced overall operating cost
  • Reduced elapsed drilling time
  • Consistent rheology
  • Minimized environmental impact

aphronICS

invasion control system

Increase production levels in depleted reservoirs by using AphronICS as an alternative to underbalanced drilling. This solids-free system is ideal for controlling invasion and formation damage with a design that involves dynamic, multiphase flow that controls whole fluid, filtrate, and solids invasion into the reservoir.

AirBeads

lost circulation system

Controlling severe losses is a challenge for any drilling fluids system, but AirBeadsLCS is an extremely effective alternative method to air or foam drilling. The system controls losses while maintaining overbalance.

benefits include
  • Improved overall drilling efficiency
  • Reduced circulation loss
  • Improved drilling in high angle and horizontal wells
  • Minimized differential sticking risk
  • No size and shape dependence
  • Proven alternative to UBD
  • Improved cement job quality
  • Minimized formation damage
  • Reduced cleanup time and costs
  • Reduced overall operating cost
  • Minimized environmental impact

Both AphronICS and AirBeadsLCS are formed by combining air with a specialized surfactant in a viscosified fluid which, when exposed to a drop in pressure, will form aphrons-compressed micro-bubbles. The systems, in which the aphrons act as colloid particles rather than material solids, permit at-balance drilling by equalizing hydraulic pressure between the wellbore and the formation.
